Scrap Yarn Jacket

 

Materials

Yarn- Whatever scrap yarn you have

3.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Scissors

You will need to make 27 small squares and 8 big squares.

 

1: Ch6. Hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook. Hdc in each of the two remaining ch. At this point, you’ll have a small block of the ch-3 turning ch and 3 hdc st’s.

 

2:  Ch6, Hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook. Hdc in each of the two remaining ch’s. This completes the first block of the second row. 

 

3:  Now, we’ll need to join this block to the first block we made. Find the ch-3-space created by the turning-ch-3 on the first block. Slip stitch into the ch-3-sp from the previous row.

 

4: Then, make the next block. Ch 3. Make 3 hdc into that same ch-3-sp.

 

5: Ch6, Hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook. Hdc in each of the two remaining ch’s. This completes the second block of the second row. 

 

Continue following the same pattern. Turn your work at the beginning of each new row. You’ll increase one block at the beginning of each row until you reach the widest part of your project. For reference:

C2C increase: Chain 6, hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, and hdc in each remaining chain. 

 

Once your project is as wide as you’d like, you’ll start each new Row with a C2C Decrease. Instead of chaining 6 to make a new block, we’ll slip stitch across the last block in the previous row. The slip stitches will move our yarn across the block without adding height. Then, we’ll ch 3 and work the next block. Work the last block of the row and slip stitch into the next ch-3-space. Don’t ch 3 to start a new block instead, turn your work to start the next decrease row.

Sewing

Sew 15 small squares together and then do 1 round of hdc around the squares putting 2 hdc, ch 2, 2hds in each corner.

 

At this point your jacket is pretty much done but this part is optional. I felt as if the end of the arms were too wide, so I decided to do a set of half double crochets and decrease to make it smaller. I counted out my st’s and divided by an even number to get the number that I would decrease by. 42 / 14 = 12 Decrease after 12 st's.

 Now we're going to go ahead and we're going to move on to the body of the jacket I went ahead, and I did one round of half double crochets all the way around the jacket. Once I was done with the body of the jacket.

 

Attach yarn at the bottom of jacket and do front post and back post to make the jacket a little bit longer.
