Row 1: ch 2, 3 hdc into the second ch, ch 2, 3x for a total of 4 sides. We will not join, we will ch 1 and turn. (12 hdc total.)

Row 2: Turn the square around. Ch 1, hdc in each of the 3 st. (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in each corner. Repeat for a total of 4 sides. (28 hdc total)

Row 3: Turn the square around. Ch 1, hdc in each of the hdc. (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in each corner. Repeat for a total of 4 sides.

You can now continue the same pattern to make as big a square as you want. Remember, you will need 2 of these front and back.

Once you have your 2 sides you sc them together.

Now we will sc the middle together, starting at the middle point count out 5 down 1 side and attach your yarn, sc in next 5 back up to the point and 5 more down the other side. At this point you can continue to go back and forth to give yourself as much room as you need in the middle. Now sc st for st to the other side.

Do not cut yarn, now you can start hdc around the leg part of the short to make them longer.

Now we will attach are yarn at the top corner of are shorts and sc around the top of the shorts make the top as tall as you like.

Once done with the top of your shorts make a ch long enough to go around your waist and weave it in and out to make a draw string.
